Pixar’s next movie Brave goes back in time, and North of the border, to medieval Scotland.

Judging by the trailer, released today, the Highland fairytale looks very different from the company’s past hits with muted colours and sweeping mountain scenery.

And the broad Scottish accents of the actors sound a million miles from the American twangs of Toy Story, Cars and The Incredibles.

The voice talent on the new movie, Pixar’s first original adventure for three years, reads like a casting call for well-known Scottish actors.

Billy Connolly, Kelly McDonald, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson and Robbie Coltrane all get to stretch their vocal chords.

Brave opens in US theatres June 22, 2012.
